The deep bite continues to produce good fish for us. The last couple of days, we have caught fish a deep as 29 ft of water on Santone Football jigs, drop shots, swimbaits, umbrella rigs, and heavy spinnerbaits with a 5.5" LFT Live Magic Shad Swimbait.

Not much new to report. The same patterns continue to produce a few bites each day. The past couple of days, I've been able to catch a few fish on a Santone football jig and a drop shot out in 25-33 ft of water. This is quite a bit deeper than I normally fish this time of year, but not much about this year is normal. Here are a few fish from the past 3 days:

As you can see from the pic above, the LFT Magic Shad will catch all sizes!

Lake Fork is a little less than 2 ft low, but looking very good. There are some fish that are moving up, and some that have moved out. This last Saturday they made a major move up in some areas of the lake, and I saw lots of the big females that I have been waiting on. I was getting worried there for a while but they have arrived. Since they pulled up, we have been catching them pretty well by sight fishing.
I have been starting my mornings throwing buzz baits and senko type baits in the new cover and lily pad stems, and that bite has just gotten better in the last couple of days. I stick with this until midday, and then I start looking for spawning fish. While looking we have been throwing some watermelon red trick worms rigged wacky style and a few drop shots also. These fish have been best in 6-8 ft on big wood.
Now that we have some good cover along the shorelines, the fry have a place to hide, so keep this on your mind now and in the future because lots of bass will be hanging out here before and after the spawn. The smaller pockets just off the main lake seem to be better for me, but many of coves that run way off the main lake have lots of fish in them. Remember the creek channels going into the coves if you do not like sight fishing and want to catch a big bass. They will hang out and follow the creek channels in and out, and best baits will be Carolina rigs, TX rigs, and jigs. You might want to throw a DD -22 in a perch pattern over the creek channel from time to time. This will catch the big girls that have already spawned out and also those that are just making their way up the creek to spawn.
I hope this helps you on your next trip to Lake Fork. I have a few days open in April but just one here and there late in the month and a few open in May as well. Give me a call or drop me an email and we'll get you set up!

Here's Chuck with our first fish of the day (water temp 65.2, 6ft of water).
After a nice start, we struggled for a bit to find some fish that would bite. We went to lunch with only 6 fish in the boat, and we only had 7 by 2:00 when I decided to move out to the main lake and fish for some staging fish. I could kick myself in the rear for not making the move a lot sooner. From 2:00 to 4:00, we boated 14 more and missed a couple more. Shaky head LFT Zig Zag, Carolina rigged LFT Zig Zags, and drop shots all caught fish in the 5-10 ft range. All but a couple of these fish were prespawn females.
It's hard to leave the spawning pockets when you are seeing 63-70 degree water temps, but we just couldn't get a consistent bite. Those fish will show up very soon, so keep your eyes open for cruisers.

Overall, it was a pretty tough day for me today. We caught fish everywhere we stopped, but we never found a large concentration of fish today. Water temp at the ramp this morning was 58.7 and it warmed to 61 this afternoon. We caught most of our fish on drop shots and black/blue Santone jigs with LFT Hyper Freak. Here are a couple of pics from today:
